As a heterosexual man, I wonder sometimes if it should bother me that I tend to have the best times in gay bars. The Rose's crowd will know what I'm talking about. Aside from that, there was the time at Tracks in D.C., where I brought two attractive women with me, each of whom, while dancing with me, tried to make the other jealous. And then there was tonight.

I got together tonight with Rob, a friend of ours (actually, a friend of my wife's from college). He's a gay man who works as an editor at playboy.com, and who put together my bachelor party that never took place. I met him and two friends of his for dinner at a place called Firefly. After a wonderful dinner, we went to a gay bar called Roscoe's for "Game Show night." Game show night involves staging some version of some old-school game show. Tonight, they did Match Game, which involved six people pretending to be celebrities like Bette Davis, Anna Nicole Smith, and Charles Nelson Reilly, and a variety of patrons chosen to be contestants. I entered but was not chosen. Instead, I laughed nearly until tears came.

Meanwhile, Rob loves Rose's and is going to be in NYC next week, so you'll all get to meet him. And with that, I'm going to bed.

i don't think so at all. as you know, the atmosphere in gay bars is *totally* different, partially because i don't think gay people take themselves quite as seriously when they're out to have a good time :-)

Two Saturdays ago, I ran into Charles Nelson Reilly (yes, I mean that literally) with my shopping cart in the meat locker (yes, I mean that literally) section of the 14th street Western Beef. His glasses aren't quite as square as they used to be, and he's had a lift or two, but still recognizably CNR. I believe he was buying pork chops.

It's a memory I'll treasure. Truly.

No bachelor party? Isn't that grounds for annulment?

Yay, Roscoe's! I haven't been there in over a year. I love karaoke night there. Hope you're enjoying my hometown.
