Party Summary

We had about 100 people show up, although not all at once. I don't think we ever had to get more than 80 people in here.

The apartment is . . . sticky. By the end of the evening, we had homosexuals passed out on two different couches. I think I broke my big toe, and I am about to leave for the emergency room.

By many definitiions, that's a successful party.


Update (3:40 PM): The toe is not broken, merely very swollen and very painful. The galling thing is that I simply don't remember how I hurt it, and I don't have the excuse of having been drunk. I was too busy playing the host to get that toasted. That leaves only my natural obliviousness, which seems to have reached new heights.

Anyhow, the ER doctor gave me some strong painkillers. They have certainly helped with the pain, which is good, but they make me feel stupid, which is not. It's not a perfect world.

I have a flair for the dramatic. Although one of my personal goals is for my life to become such that I no longer need said flair.

Thanks. It turns out that however I injured it (and I unquestionably did--it's swollen and quite painful), I broke no bones.

It's that pesky flair kicking in again. Lauren made friends with a young woman (whom you met at the party, actually) who was about to move to NYC. Just after she moved here, she didn't know that many people in the City, so we sometimes served as a support system.

This led to some jokes about "adopting" her. I probably enjoyed them a little too much, but then, within this sensitive and understanding exterior beats the heart of a heterosexual man.

yes, the adopted lesbian was pointed out to me. (Unfortunately, I do not remember any single men being pointed out to me, so I instead bored the poor SM intern, but he was much too polite to say so.)

I'm sure the concept of an adopted woman who loves women is full fantasy fodder for a warm-blooded like you;-)

Well, the problem with that sort of fantasy under the circumstances is that the reality in this case is mostly avuncular, if anything. Under the totality of the circumstances, I would just feel creepy, and I really try to avoid that. It's probably because I went to a liberal, northeastern, Ivy League university.

But under different circumstances, who knows what could happen? Next time we adopt a lesbian, things could be very different. ;-)
