All the references to symbiosis between man and machine are just a smokescreen. They exist because without them the real point would be more painfully obvious: it's not just that man and machine are interdependent; it's that each is becoming the other.

I need to see it again, not least because I want to pay more attention to the scene with Neo and the Architect.

Did I miss something about those guys who were walking across the courtyard where the Oracle was talking to Neo, or were they just guys walking across the courtyard?

Another question: I know that the number 23 is associated with the Illuminati. But what is its significance?

The answer, of course, is that we don't. But the Wachowskis' storytelling has been especially deft to this point; I don't know how they make it a story of matrices within matricies without turning it into Dada.
