Greetings from the City of Brotherly Love
Apr. 24th, 2003 11:42 pmTonight I am in Philadelphia, the city of my birth and where I was raised. This is why I am at neither piano bar nor at
rm's performance of Acis and Galatea. (I think I will try to go Saturday night--is anyone else going then?)
I have been sent here to be trained in the use of software I work with every day. The reason is that my employer cannot require outside consultants to undergo this training as a condition of certification, without also requiring its own employees to undergo the same training. The process will reach its climax of absurdity in May when I must take a test for which I am writing the study guide.
But the training is not too boring, and I am staying tonight at the Philadelphia Sofitel which is lovely and less expensive than the Bucharest Sofitel. I met some friends for dinner tonight at a restaurant near the Delaware, called Continental. The place has basically the Philadelphia equivalent of a B&T crowd, but we sat outside and watched the people walking by. Our waitress was a stunningly beautiful woman whose breasts were apparently a recent purchase.
Two friends took advantage of the occasion to announce that they had bought a new house together. Another friend works in the U.S. Attorney's office and described how he had driven a long way today to interview a potential witness. I met a third person, a woman, who didn't eat much because she kept kosher. We had a very good time.
More training tomorrow, followed by a dash back to New York. Tomorrow is the 5th anniversary of Lauren's and my first date, and we are returning to the scene of the crime, Cafe de Bruxelles. That is, if we both make it back to New York in time. (Lauren, too, must travel for part of the day.) Then I finally get to stay home for a while, while Lauren leaves Saturday to go to San Francisco for a few days.

Date: 2003-04-25 08:10 am (UTC)coincidentally, it also marks exactly one year since my first date with my exboyfriend. a similar sentimental observance will not be held. anniversaries become null-and-void after break-ups, ya know?
