I really hope nobody doubts the horrors Saddam is guilty of. There is no question in my mine he has dreams of being another Hitler. In many ways already having achieved nearly that status, having killed millions by his actions. He should have been stopped 10 years ago.
Yes, Saddam should have been killed ten years ago, but the first President Bush decided that it was more important to build an international coalition than to do the right thing, which left his son to finish the job.
And no one (except maybe the aluminum-foil-lined-hat crowd) doubts the horrors of Saddam's regime, but a great many people consider it indisputable that the horrors of war are worse. Well, here's evidence that at least one Iraqi disputes it. I suspect there are more.
I think it's more that his dad wanted to get re-elected and didn't want the body count--the odds, though still totally in our favor, were a lot closer back then. It's so weird watching a movie like Three Kings and thinking, 'we thought our technological edge was huge then? I don't even think we had x486s in our computers', if I can remember correctly. And I agree--Saddam's made peacetime in his country worse than wartime, and that's a whole other class of evil.
Thanks. We were at the Miami Seaquarium (where most of these new icons came from), and it was feeding time at the sea lion exhibit. Well, that pelican had been around the block a few times, and he knew that not all the fish was going to make it to the sea lions. And now he has been immortalized in my LiveJournal.
