The Way My Mind Works
Mar. 24th, 2003 03:35 pmI am about to take on my first VLA case, which involves incorporating an organization as a non-profit and getting tax-exempt status for it. But it occurs to me that I'd like to take on some matter that would involve representing a photographer. That way, I figure, maybe he'd do something really annoying (like not return my phone calls or fill out an affidavit in crayon) and then I, too, would get to begin an LJ post with the words: "Dear Stupid Photographer."
I just feel left out, is all.

Date: 2003-03-24 03:05 pm (UTC)I was assigned to work on a prisoner's rights case once, and the guy did the best he could to be helpful, but that was still annoying because he suffered from moderate-to-severe mental illness and was clearly not the most mentally organized person I've ever met. Arguably it's not entirely his fault, but that made him no less annoying to deal with. Also, it was plainly a bullshit case, which was itself annoying.
On the other hand, I did get a divorce for a battered woman once, and that was rewarding. The lawyer who had first been helping her really did a lot to help the woman start to put an independent life together. Then I took over and was able to get her legally divorced so she could try to move on with her life. (I also got her generous spousal and child support orders, but I'm not so proud of that because I doubt she'll ever be able to track down the guy's assets to collect.)
