Priorities

It's very interesting to see CNN's priorities when it comes to news coverage. This morning, they were covering Dick Gephardt's announcement that he was running for President . . .

Then they cut away from that to cover Tom Ridge's statement on the terror threat status . . .

Then they cut away from that to cover the rescue of a dog stranded on an ice floe on the Passaic River in New Jersey.

The dog having been rescued, they have returned to Tom Ridge.


Update (11:02 AM): They have just cut back to the dog. Apparently he has been wrapped in a blanket.

It's some dark color. They will probably debate the exact color tonight on Crossfire, then Larry King will likely interview the dog tonight.

And local affiliates everywhere are racing around trying to find someone in their viewership with some connection... they'll probably find a kid whose cousin was married to the mailman who got bit by the dog 3 years ago.

In response, CNBC is going to add a new talk show hosted by a standard poodle, a black lab, and Chris Matthews.

Fox, meanwhile, has announced that they will be presenting "fair and unbiased" coverage of the same issues on a show hosted by a cat and a mailman.

The timing of all this is rather suspect, don't you think? You *know* we're going to be seeing excessive promos for Fox's new reality show "Who Wants to Walk a MillionaireDog?" (I heard a rumor it's going to be hosted by Michael Jackson!)

I was watching that same cut routine but I forgot to post about it. Unbelievable. I kept flipping channels looking for live continued coverage of Gephardt's speech and all I could find was that damn dog rescue. Then they just went back to Ridge so I fugured, hey, I should see what this guy is saying just so I know what kind of bullshit they are feeding the public. I made it through the gathering of flashlights and 3 days supply of food for you terrorist attack safety kit, but when he got to the part about the duct tape and plastic sheeting I just couldn't take it anymore and turned the damn thing off. I would rather stare at the wall than listen to that tripe.

The dog was pretty cute though. Maybe it can write a book about its experience and make a fortune. I am sure CNN would promote it.

Thanks to the "synergy" provided by media conglomeration, I'm sure we could expect Warner Brothers to produce a movie version of the dog's book, too.
