After the Hurricane

After two parties in three days, we are slowly returning the apartment to habitability. I've already written about Thursday's party. Last night, we had an early celebration of my thirty-fifth birthday (the birthday is not until the 17th). I had fun.
Since the party fell on Pearl Harbor day, my wife (who did most of the organizing) decided on a Hawaiian theme. I tried to pick some food that reflected that, like spare ribs, and teriyaki-pineapple chicken skewers. There were also my famous corn dogs, which have absolutely no Hawaiian connection whatsoever, but are very, very good. The apartment was decorated to within an inch of its life.
We had about sixty people, including my parents, my in-laws, and lots of friends including several LJers. Everyone seemed to have fun. I did entirely too much name dropping but eventually stopped. The mai tais were very good and very strong, and the blue Hawaiis were, well, blue.
Things finally broke up at around 2:30, and we made it to bed by 3. Then this morning we got up around 11 for brunch at Balthzar, a treat from the in-laws. I consider that a successful weekend.

Date: 2002-12-09 10:07 am (UTC)Get some hot dogs. I like to use Hebrew National franks, but you can use what you like. Cut them into pieces--I get eight pieces per dog.
Coat the pieces lightly with ketchup, or, if you prefer, catsup.
Roll them in the secret ingredient: Kellogg's Corn Flake Crumbs. Now, you can buy a box of corn flakes and whomp the bejeesus out of them with a blender, but Kellogg's actually sells pre-crumbified cornflakes, and that's what I use.
Put the coated dogs in the oven and bake. I'm still experimenting with time and temperature, but 400 degrees for fifteen minutes seems to work for now.
As for the entirely unnecessary but greatly appreciated present, well, there are four more weeks of Monday Night Football left in the season. What does your schedule look like?

Date: 2002-12-09 10:59 am (UTC)As for reheating the corn dogs, well, unless you're making lots of them, the simplest solution is just to prepare a sheet of them but not bake them until you're about to serve them. I always make lots of them, though, so I never do that. I'm still working the bugs out of the reheating process, but try 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes.
