I Have Become a Stereotype

I am about to brag about my son. I know that some people can't abide that sort of thing, and if you're one of them, you probably ought to skip directly to the next post on your friends page, which, I'm sure, has something to do with Ron, Luna, Roman Polanski, and maybe Buckbeak.

This morning, when it was time to wake up Leo, my wife said to him: "It's October first! Do you know what that means?"

Leo replied, "Thirty days to my birthday!"

He's going to be five, so I am kind of impressed that he figured out the "thirty days" thing on his own.

So were you ever one of those people who rolled your eyes at the people who would brag about their kids? Just wondering. I noticed a few friends who hated hearing such stories but then sheepishly started
sharing their own stories once they became parents. Leo's quick with the numbers :)

I probably was one of those people with little tolerance for such stories. I also try to keep in mind that all parents think their kids are the smartest, funniest, cutest, etc., although, of course, in each category, all but one have to be wrong. I'm sure it's some kind of evolutionary adaptation: even the most devoted parent is occasionally tempted to see if the gypsies are in a buying mood, and the imagination boggles at what might happen if parents could see their own children objectively.

Then again, Leo really does have a thing with numbers. And he's got a lot of personality.
