After hearing the flight attendants' safety speech for the gazillionth time on my gazillionth flight, I started tuning it out. As for the "In the unlikely event of a water landing . . ." part, I was under the impression that there had never in aviation history been a successful ditching of a jet airliner in the water, and, hopeless know-it-all that I am, got annoyed with them for including that part in their spiel.

No more.

Quite a heroic landing...glad no one was hurt.

I do wonder about the fact that the flight originated at LGA though. My take on how that affected the problem is the runways at LaGuardia are not as long as those at JFK. That plays a part because in order for a plane to reach velocity to take off, they would have to run the engines hotter and faster than a jet taking off at JFK.

That would play a part because if a bird or flock of birds got in the way of these hot revving engines, it would be impossible for them to steer out of the way of the air sucking them into the engines.

I never fly out of LGA under any circumstance.

Hmmm. What about EWR?

I think Newark is safer, but I don't fly out of there because it's just completely inconvenient to get to!

Well, there's that. For some.

For me, JFK might as well be in Maine.

If you can get to LaGuardia, Kennedy really isn't that much farther.

I guess if you have a flight on a smaller sized airplane, LGA is perfectly fine.
