What Have I Done For Myself Today?
Apr. 29th, 2002 12:51 amSo one of the big issues in my life is that I invent reasons not to do what I like, because it's easier than taking responsibility for actually doing them. At my last visit to therapy, we wrote out a surprisingly long list of things that are fun for me. (Well, maybe not so suprising. If you look at my profile, you'll see a lot of interests.) I was instructed to do at least one a day and to keep track of which one.
I was also told that if I didn't do that, not to bother showing up for my next appointment, as we'd have nothing to talk about.
So I've put some effort into it. Mostly, I've been playing go, as that's pretty easy to do. I really like good food, too, and we had some great dinners for a couple of nights.
Then this weekend I got dragged back to Philadelphia for some social and familial obligations. For two days, I couldn't find an opportunity to do anything on that list. Boy am I in trouble now.
Well, not really. But it just goes to show, it doesn't pay to go out of town.
