After the Hurricane
Dec. 8th, 2002 05:25 pmAfter two parties in three days, we are slowly returning the apartment to habitability. I've already written about Thursday's party. Last night, we had an early celebration of my thirty-fifth birthday (the birthday is not until the 17th). I had fun.
Since the party fell on Pearl Harbor day, my wife (who did most of the organizing) decided on a Hawaiian theme. I tried to pick some food that reflected that, like spare ribs, and teriyaki-pineapple chicken skewers. There were also my famous corn dogs, which have absolutely no Hawaiian connection whatsoever, but are very, very good. The apartment was decorated to within an inch of its life.
We had about sixty people, including my parents, my in-laws, and lots of friends including several LJers. Everyone seemed to have fun. I did entirely too much name dropping but eventually stopped. The mai tais were very good and very strong, and the blue Hawaiis were, well, blue.
Things finally broke up at around 2:30, and we made it to bed by 3. Then this morning we got up around 11 for brunch at Balthzar, a treat from the in-laws. I consider that a successful weekend.
