Home again, home again . . .

I was away all last week, which partly explains my LJ inactivity. I thought about updating while I was away, but I didn't really want to announce to the world that our apartment was unattended for a week. Two days ago, it occurred to me that I could solve that problem by making my entries friends-only. Next time.
We went to Margate City, New Jersey for a week. My wife and I grew up in Philadelphia, and for Philadelphia-area Jews, Margate is the shore destination of choice. Despite having moved to New York, we still go to Margate with our friends.
My wife's family has a house there, and we stayed there from Sunday night through Tuesday. Then her family got there, and we decided it would be best to leave before anyone got driven crazy.
We shared a house last summer near Margate, and one of the couples we shared the house with liked it so much they decided to buy a place. We stayed with them for the rest of the week, although inadequate air conditioning was an issue on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
It was a fun trip. We had dinner with friends Sunday night, and Monday night we went to my aunt's house in Margate. Tuesday night, my wife and I had dinner alone--I made salmon--and that was the first time in over a week that I hadn't had social plans. After that, we were in a house full of people, and the week was punctuated by cocktail parties and cookouts. It's getting harder and harder to be a hermit.
I'm not much of a beach person though, and the first half of the week was very hot. Things cooled off on Friday, though, so I went out for a while. I played a great deal of volleyball on the beach, and by the end of the day, I tended to resemble a large breaded veal cutlet.
There's some other things to talk about, but I think those are for future entries. It's good to be home.
Tonight is my wife's birthday, and we're going to a wonderful restaurant. Later in the week, we're having a birthday party, in which we will try to squeeze eighty people into a Manhattan apartment.
