Skeletons From the Closet

What with the alien sucking out her life force from the inside, my wife has been thinking much about baby-related things. A few days ago, she asked me if I knew where my baby book was. (For those unfamiliar with such things, it's a book that parents keep, recording milestones in your development, amusing events, etc. It's primarily so they can humiliate and blackmail you later in life.) I knew we had it around somewhere, but I couldn't remember where.

Last night, sorting through books in preparation for our coming move, Lauren found my baby book and set it aside. Looking through it, I found the following troubling entry:

Age 2 1/2: Jon can sing "Mama" from Cabaret.

I don't think that anyone planned it that way. My guess is that my mother saw the show and was quite taken with it. She thus (a) bought the cast recording and played it constantly; (b) sang the songs over and over while attending to her motherly tasks; or (c) both. I just picked it up by observation.

I don't know if I learned all the verses then. I suspect not. In any case, I certainly don't remember it now. Which is not to say I couldn't learn, if motivated.

The motivating part may be hard. Hard.

Actually, I misremembered. I just looked in the book, and what it says is:

2 1/2 -> [Jon] can sing the entire song, "MAMA" from the show Cabaret.
