All right, maybe not that sunny. In fact, tonight we had severe thunderstorms with tornado warnings nearby. I can hear the wind howling outside my window. But the hotel is clean and comfortable, and the TV is showing the porn channels for free (although one of the titles is Whore of the Rings, which proves, I suppose, that you get what you pay for), so that's something.

The storm was actually impressive as it passed. Thunderstorms are among the few things I've missed since moving to Manhattan. I grew up on the western edge of Philadelphia, in a westward-facing apartment in a high-rise building. There was nothing to block our view, so we all loved to watch the fireworks as the storms rolled in. The heat of Manhattan weakens and even destroys storms, and we aren't rich enough to have an apartment on a high floor overlooking the Hudson. So I miss it.

We spent this weekend at the Jersey shore and it was a difficult weekend for me emotionally, for reasons that aren't really for public consumption. Lauren was unhappy, too, for connected reasons. The weather was nice, though, and we spent some time with friends I like. Getting back to New York was annoying, though, as our ride's car died, and we wound up taking the bus. Except, that is, we missed two buses because there weren't enough seats for all the people on line, and we didn't get home until after 1 AM.

Meanwhile, my foot is still stiff, swollen, and very painful. (At the meeting today, I wore a sandal on my left foot because I couldn't get my foot into a normal shoe.) Advil often helps with the pain, but sometimes it doesn't. Then I take the narcotics that the doctor prescribed, and they relieve the pain by stupefying me.

Maybe I have gout. I will have to call my doctor when I get home.

Anyhow, last night, after I finally got into bed, I slept briefly, then was woken at about 3 AM by the pain in my foot. I tried to fall back to sleep, but eventually took a painkiller, which did too good a job. I overslept, and between the drugs and the foot pain, I couldn't make up the time; I got to Penn Station just as my train was leaving, and I had to wait two hours for the next one. I got to the client late in the afternoon, but still managed to accomplish most of what had to be done today. Tomorrow, I teach a daylong training class, and then at some point, I put together a quick-and-dirty web site so they can test their templates.

I'm going to bed early tonight. Yesterday tired me out quite thoroughly, and it's a long day tomorrow.
