Apr. 7th, 2004 03:19 pmI'm here in Albany, waiting at the station for my train. I was originally asked to set aside two full days to train our second-level tech support people on our software. When I learned that there was nothing else that they wanted, I insisted that it would take no more than a day. In fact, it took about two hours.
I returned the rental car in "downtown" Albany and had lunch at the Crowne Plaza hotel. They screwed up my order at first, but they were awfully nice about it. When I finished, the picked up my entire tab, which struck me as an unnecessarily generous thing to to, especially since I would have been reimbursed for lunch anyway. But since it was indeed generous, I simply smiled and thanked the waitress.
I got shuttled to the train station, hoping to catch a 3:15 train. I got there in plenty of time, but it turned out that the train, coming from Canada was over an hour late. So instead I got a reservation on the 4:15 train, getting home a little later than I had hoped, but about three hours sooner than I had originally planned.
The delay is annoying, especially since the Albany station has little to offer. Of course, one thing it does have to offer is an unsecured Wi-Fi access point, so it's not all bad.
