I sometimes find myself wondering how Professor Tolkien, a gentleman scholar of the Old School in just about every sense of the term, would react upon learning of the joy with which young maidens in the flower of their purity and innocence read and write stories of the brave men of Gondor, uh, sodomizing one another.

Medical Tidbit

Ever since that wee bout of melanoma all those years ago, I have to get examined by a dermatologist every six months or so. I had one of those examinations this morning, and there's nothing obviously wrong. My dermatologist is a little quick to whip out a scalpel, though, and partially flay me, explaining as she does so that "it's probably nothing, but given your history . . . ." I thus now have two ouchy spots.
