Indiana Jones and the Temple of Beef
Dec. 17th, 2002 09:47 pmI don't normally overeat. Tonight turned out to be an exception.
We decided that to celebrate my birthday we would go to Peter Luger Steak House for dinner. We didn't have a reservation, but we thought we'd show up and see if we could get a table. When we got there, they told us that the wait for a table would be "hours," but it took us only 45 minutes. We spent that time chatting amiably at the bar with the bartender and a local restauranteur who had brought his family there on their day off.
The meal was outstanding, of course. We got the porterhouse for two, of course. Afterwards, we shared a hot fudge sundae, and I took the cherry stem and tied a knot in it with my tongue.
And now I am lying here in pain from having overeaten, and my wife is preparing for a TV appearance tomorrow and making egg nog for her office party. All in all, a reasonable birthday.
