Well, no, because she'd wonder why I'm not spending time with her. And besides, I can't really set up inside: even if there were room, the buildings are all framed in steel and block the signal.
The whole plan, really, relies on our moving to an apartment next to Hudson River park. If I get some lightweight, portable gear (including some kind of antenna that's easy to put up and take down), I can set up outside for a couple of hours at a time, at least once in a while. Since it's next to the river and has relatively short buildings in the immediate surroundings, I may be able to get some kind of signal out. There may be some power outlets out there, but if not, I can always use low-power gear on batteries.
I don't look forward to trying to explain to the local cops that I'm an FCC-licensed ham radio operator, and that I'm not sending clandestine messages to al Qaeda. Or even Al Sharpton.
